Stone Chapel gets inspired upgrade

Even with chipped and cracked asbestos tiles, the Kingdom Krafters team finished the massive Stone Chapel project with DaVinci slate in a month.

In June of 2023 high winds and hail damaged 87 structures on the campus of Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. Kingdom Krafters was brought in to repair every rooftop. The most critical, the landmark 1892 Stone Chapel, received an upgrade to an Inspire Slate roof.

“Because of the historical significance of Stone Chapel, we recommended a complete roof replacement with Inspire Slate,” says Garrett Brumley with Kingdom Krafters. “This advanced resin product from DaVinci Roofscapes has a Class 4 impact rating. The material can withstand Midwest storms and is guaranteed for 50 years. In addition, it has a slate-style look that complements the historic stone exterior of the chapel.”

Inspire Slate replacement 

Dealing with chipped and cracked asbestos tiles in poor condition that needed replacing, the Kingdom Krafters team finished the massive Stone Chapel project in less than four weeks. This includes the asbestos removal, re-decking and the Inspire Slate installation in a Steel Gray color. In addition, it includes the installation of new copper gutters, valleys and ridges on the church. 

“One of the most challenging aspects of this project was accessibility,” says Garrett. “We used scaffolding for the main roof line. Plus, we used a 135-foot boom lift to reach the steeple of the church. Every tile was installed with precision to assure the church maintains its historic appeal.”
