The Q2 2026 Market Index Survey for Reroofing, shared by the Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association (PIMA), offers a detailed look at current business conditions across the roofing industry. More than 180 usable responses were collected for the quarter, doubling participation from Q1 2026. Roofing contractors represented 68% of respondents, while roofing consultants accounted for 32%. Most participants were active beyond steep-slope-only work, with 88% reporting that their businesses primarily serve low-slope roofing or a blend of low- and steep-slope roofing. The remaining 12% worked exclusively in steep-slope roofing.
The Customer Inquiries Index for the total industry remained in positive territory for Q2 2026, dipping slightly to 53.5 from 57.1 in Q1 2026. Businesses engaged primarily in low-slope roofing reported a positive reading of 60.2, while businesses working in a blend of steep- and low-slope roofing reported a positive reading of 52.4. Businesses engaged primarily in steep-slope roofing reported a negative reading of 31.8.
Please note: The Customer Inquiries Index is based on a zero-to-100 scale. A score of 50 or higher suggests expansion or optimism, while a value below 50 indicates contraction or pessimism.
The Project Contracts Index for the total industry improved for Q2 2026, rising to 54.3 from 52.9 in Q1 2026. Businesses engaged primarily in low-slope roofing reported a positive reading of 63.3. Businesses engaged primarily in steep-slope roofing and those working in a blend of steep- and low-slope roofing reported negative readings of 40.9 and 48.8, respectively.
Please note: The Project Contracts Index operates on the same scale as the Customer Inquiries Index.
The overall Customer Inquiries Index and Project Contracts Index remained in positive territory for Q2 2026, although performance varied by business segment. Primarily low-slope businesses reported positive readings for both customer inquiries and project contracts, while primarily steep-slope businesses reported negative readings in both categories.
The percentage of respondents reporting a project backlog of three months or longer increased by three points compared to April 2026. The Q3 2026 survey is scheduled to open Oct. 5 and close Oct. 19.
Roof contractors and consultants that participated in the Q2 2026 survey were provided with full access to the results via an online dashboard.
