FiberTite Roofing System Still Performing After 30 + Years

Don Dubena, Assistant Director of Building and Grounds at Baldwin Wallace University, is the primary care-taker of facilities on campus, ranging from recreational facilities to student housing. The recreational center, in particular, is the epicenter of student activity and experiences heavy foot traffic year-round. The university, located in Berea, Ohio, is exposed to all four seasons, which makes it a necessity to have a robust and durable roof. “This has been one of the better roofs I’ve had on campus here,” Dubena said. “As far as the snow and the wind, I think it has held up well.”

Installed in 1985, the FiberTite roofing system on the Lou Higgins Recreational Center is still standing strong today. Baldwin Wallace selected FiberTite’s 36 mil., the original KEE roofing membrane, to be and adhered to the preexisting deck layer. The 29,000+ sq. ft. project was contracted by Hi-Tech Roofers, Inc. based out of Millersburg, Ohio.

Since its installation, the Recreational Center protects not only the students in their daily events, but special events, commencements, community events and dignitaries from governors to congressmen to the President of the United States.

In October 2013, the university requested FiberTite XT to be installed on two residence halls, Klein and Saylor, located on Beech Street. The project was completed in October 2013 and is warranted for a standard 20 years, a fraction of time in relation to the longevity of FiberTite roofing systems that have been performing since 1985. “I think we got our money’s worth out of this roof,” Dubena said.

Seaman Corporation, manufacturer of FiberTite Roofing Systems, has been a worldwide market leader of innovative, high performance coated fabrics since 1949. Using a unique, four layer technology providing puncture, UV, chemical, and ponding water resistance, FiberTite is the original Elvaloy KEE membrane with a 35+ year history of performance.

Seaman Corporation has manufacturing locations in Wooster, Ohio and Bristol, Tennessee. In addition to FiberTite, Seaman Corporation also makes fabrics for more specialized markets, including military, dock seals, marine applications, pool covers, truck tarps, mower covers and others.
