John “Sean” Madden of Brighton, formerly Tuam, County Galway, Ireland, passed away on June 6, 2026, surrounded by the spirit of his family’s love. He was born on June 11, 1943, to the late John and Mary (Staunton) Madden. Beloved husband of Kathleen (Halloran) Madden. Devoted father of Kathleen Benjaminsen and her husband Glenn of Norton, John G. Madden and his wife Jennifer of Cohasset, James Madden and his wife Melissa of Canton, Colleen Fairchild and her husband Tim of Walpole. Loving “Papa” of Anthony, Danielle, Jack, Sarafina, Gabriella, Meredith, Andrew, Dylan, Colin and Connor. “Great-grandpa” of Apollonia and Ophelia. Cherished brother of Philomena Danehy, Sarah Pitta and the late Patrick Madden, Teresa O’Malley, Delia Naughton, Katherine Burke and Richard Madden. Brother-in-law of Mary Halloran, Nora Lavelle Schwartz and the late Patrick Halloran. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Brighton Courthouse), BRIGHTON, on Tuesday, June 16, at 9:30 a.m. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Columbkille Church, 321 Market St, Brighton, at 10:30 a.m. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours on Monday, June 15, from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home. John was founder and owner of John Henry Roofing, Inc. for 52 years, which continues through the second generation today. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 17 and Northeast Roofing Contractors Association. He also served as president of St. Columbkille’s Gaelic Football Club. John immigrated to Boston at the age of 16 to seek opportunity and be near his siblings who had come before him. It is there that John met his beloved Kathy, who became his wife for over 64 years. Guided by his strong Christian faith and work ethic, John touched the lives of countless people with his kind, generous nature and welcoming way. His happy places were his first home, Co. Galway, Ireland, and Dennis, Cape Cod, where he enjoyed cookouts with family and friends, Corporation Beach and tending to his beautiful gardens.
