The Effects of Weather on Roof Performance

In this Contractor Outlook™, Heidi J. Ellsworth meets with Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues (RICOWI) Storm Investigation Program Coordinator Phil Mayfield, to discuss the effects of weather on roof performance. They will explore RICOWI’s mission and history, and their ongoing investigations into the impact of extreme weather on the roofing industry. They examine the organization's findings from the past year, including notable trends in hail and wind damage, as well as the influence of climate change on extreme weather events. The conversation also touches on building codes, with a focus on whether the post-Hurricane Andrew standards in Dade County are still sufficient today. Additionally, the two discuss the Fortify System installations from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) and the increasing adoption of these systems, along with RICOWI's valuable training opportunities for roofing professionals.
