Torching to dens dek prime

Hello,

I may have a re-roofing job coming up and I would like to know if anyone has any experience with torching APP directly to the "dens dek prime" product.

I have many times is the past torched to duroboard by JM, but this time I am looking for something a little more rigid, to torch to.

Duroboard was made to torch to, while Densdec is considered a nailable product, I do know of some contractors that have torched over primed Densdec but the roofs had a short life due the contractors torching abilities. You said a reroofing job does this mean tear off or go over I have always considered a reroof as a tear off and a go over as a roof over, in the 30+ years of roofing BUR, APP,SBS,andEPDM,TPO,PVC singleplies I would say 90% of our reroofing was tear off. According to our FBC building codes Densdec is considered a nailable deck and nailable decks have to be nailed unless you get an engineers approval to do otherwise.

You will have a checker board pattern of the joints and they will be the first area to wear through/crack open. You should, in my opinion, if you don't have a nice smooth BUR, always torch over a partially adhered or mechanically fastened base to allow some movement under the membrane. Not to mention that it would probably peel off the dens deck do to the facer coming off.

I would not recommend torching to any DensDeck, Primed or Standard

Couple guys here locally returned from lunch to a torch on job they were doing and found the 4 unit apartment building up in flames.
