Horrible advice to DIY'er

Read this. http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20121104/entlife/711049999/ What roofing supply sold that much product to the homeowner anyway? Why would someone take advice on this from a handyman in a newspaper? Is this bad advice or am I wrong? I don't know it all you know.

You aren't reading the whole thing. What about the pink bathtub? If I had a pink bathtub I'd never ever change the color on it. At the end of the summer it would make the raw, worn fingertips look almost normal. I tell myself, "Pink is good. It's natural to get pinks." On the other hand, covering your entire roof with high density polyethylene and modified asphalt stuck to the deck is really really not natural. It sounds ghastly when you think about it.
