WSRCA Safety & Health Committee Announces Updated Drone Safety Field Card for Members

April 5, 2017 at 7:44 a.m.

Flying drones for roof inspections are subject to follow FAA guidelines which are regularly updated

WSRCA members interested in flying UAS's (unmanned aircraft systems), or drones, for job inspections need to be aware of the rules to consider to avoid any run-ins with the law or anyone else for that matter.

To keep yourself out of trouble, here are some simple rules WSRCA recommends:

Fly below 400 ft.

  • Never fly near other aircraft
  • Operators must keep unmanned aircraft in their sight
  • Keep away from emergency responders
  • Never fly under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Never fly over stadiums, sports events or groups of people
  • Never fly within 5 miles of an airport without first contacting air traffic control & airport authorities
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE CHECK WITH ALL LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL LAWS BEFORE OPERATING YOUR DRONE FOR BUSINESS. PROPER CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING MAY BE REQUIRED.

Follow these guidelines and your drone flying shouldn’t cause you any trouble. As drones become more popular, the laws regarding their use might change, so stay informed by checking in with the FAA regularly.

Members can download the updated safety card here.
