Whole-home resilience takes center stage at IBS

Whole-home resilience takes center stage at IBS
April 4, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

Learn how integrated roofing, siding and solar solutions help contractors deliver durability, energy efficiency and design flexibility.

At the International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Orlando, Florida, resilience emerged as a defining theme across the show floor. As contractors respond to more severe weather, rising homeowner expectations and mounting insurance challenges, the conversation is shifting from individual products to whole-system performance. That broader approach was on display at the CertainTeed booth, where the company highlighted how roofing, siding and solar products can work together to strengthen the entire home.

Samantha Gillenwater, part of the product management team for CertainTeed Roofing, said durability begins with impact resistance. “When we talk about resiliency, one of the biggest things we talk about is impact resistance,” Samantha said. She pointed to the NorthGate ClimateFlex shingle, which uses polymer-modified asphalt to improve flexibility and help reduce damage from hail.

That focus speaks directly to conditions many homeowners now face. With deductibles rising and claims becoming more difficult to navigate, long-term roof performance has become a more urgent concern. Samantha said the goal is to “get it right the first time,” giving contractors a stronger way to position roofing systems built to withstand repeated weather exposure without constant replacement.

At the same time, performance expectations now extend beyond impact resistance alone. Energy efficiency and code compliance are also shaping product development, particularly in regions with stricter standards. CertainTeed’s Landmark Solaris shingles, including newly introduced colors, are designed to meet updated solar reflectance requirements in markets where those values are becoming more important. The company has also expanded its wind warranty offering, with coverage up to 160 miles per hour and unlimited coverage available when the full roofing system is installed.

That systems-driven strategy continues beyond the roofline. Kyle Miller of CertainTeed’s siding products group said contractors are increasingly looking for materials that combine performance with visual variety. “Customers are looking to provide different textures, different colors, and different mixed materials on their builds,” Kyle said. Products such as panelized stone veneer systems and polymer siding are intended to simplify installation while also improving durability and curb appeal.

Taken together, the product lineup reflects a larger shift in the market. For contractors, resilience is no longer about solving one problem at a time. It is increasingly about offering coordinated solutions that protect the full structure while helping homeowners balance durability, efficiency and design.
