Weather Can't Stop New Johns Manville Plant From Being Built

Johns Manville New Plant

By Johns Manville.

After a year of unprecedented weather delaying construction, plant is slated for completion in 2022.

After several weather-delays, Johns Manville’s new production plant in Hillsboro, Texas is finally seeing progress on construction. The project, referred to as “Project Maverick,” had its first tilt wall panels set in place this month. Project Maverick broke ground September of last year, right as the Dallas-Fort Worth area began experiencing intense weather. From heavy rains to a never-before-seen snowstorm, the project has persevered through extreme weather.

“Challenges aside, our general contractor continues to make good progress to keep the project on track to provide JM access to the building at the end of May to start assembly of the manufacturing line,” said Bruce Ringstrand, Group Manager of Capital Engineering.

An extension of Johns Manville Drive and the water and sewer lines along it ― all being handled by the city of Hillsboro ― are forecast to be completed by early August.

The plant is slated to be fully complete and begin production in 2022. It will manufacture polyiso products including ENRGY 3® roof insulation, ProtectoR® HD high density cover board, AP® Foil Faced Foam sheathing and GoBoard® tile backer. These products are preferred in the market due to their high R-value per inch and the strength and durability they offer.

When complete, the Hillsboro plant will employ more than 50 people and include a JM roofing distribution center. The warehouse will stock many JM products, including TPO and accessories to expand customer service. FA Peinado Construction is the general contractor and Martin-Tomlinson Roofing will install the JM roofing system beginning at the end of March.
