Sourcing for performance

Malarkey Sourcing for performance
April 13, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.

Malarkey Roofing Products and GreenMantra Technologies collaborate to build resilient shingles.

The collaboration between Malarkey Roofing Products and GreenMantra Technologies represents a transformative shift in the roofing industry, merging high-performance engineering with advanced circular economy principles. By integrating GreenMantra’s innovative molecular recycling technology into Malarkey’s manufacturing process, the two companies have created a sustainable model that diverts material from waste streams into a valuable ingredient for modern roofing.

Roof protection from second-life plastics

It begins with GreenMantra’s ability to transform hard-to-recycle plastics — such as single-use bags and bottle caps — into specialty synthetic waxes and polymers. Malarkey incorporates these upcycled materials into its proprietary NEX® Polymer Modified Asphalt. Unlike traditional oxidized asphalt, which can become brittle over time, this rubberized blend uses recycled polymers to enhance the shingle’s flexibility, impact resistance and granule adhesion.

Tangible environmental impact

This partnership allows Malarkey Roofing Products to divert massive amounts of waste from landfills and oceans. Every 30 squares of a Malarkey roof (an average-sized home) upcycles the equivalent of approximately 3,200 plastic bags and five rubber tires. To date, at enterprise scale, the roofing manufacturer has diverted 5.9 billion plastic bags and 9 million rubber tires from the waste stream since working with GreenMantra. See Malarkey’s 2026 Sustainability Report for more information. By replacing a portion of virgin plastic and raw asphalt with GreenMantra’s recycled additives, Malarkey significantly reduces its environmental footprint while maintaining a Class 4 roofing shingle impact rating — the highest in the industry.

Durability meets sustainability

This synergy proves that eco-friendly choices do not require a compromise in quality. GreenMantra Technologies provides some "building blocks" that allow Malarkey shingles to withstand extreme weather, including high winds and hail, for decades. Together, they are not just making shingles; they are pioneering a cleaner, longer-lasting future for the sustainable roofing market.
