Predicting roof damage before storms hit

TeamCraft Roofing Inc. is changing how contractors respond to severe weather. 

Storm response has always been reactive in roofing: a storm hits, damage occurs and contractors do their best to make repairs as quickly as possible. But what if you could know which properties are at risk before the damage even happens? TeamCraft Roofing Inc. is trying to get ahead of the storm with their newest technology, ShelterCare™. 

ShelterCare integrates with National Weather Service data, monitoring severe weather alerts in real time. Unlike traditional tools that draw broad circles around weather events or rely on post-storm imagery, ShelterCare uses exact polygon boundaries to pinpoint which properties fall inside affected zones. 

Alex Kindruk, director of AI integration for TeamCraft, shared, “We use weather services that provide large datasets about upcoming weather events for specific zones. We then have algorithms that analyze property details in an affected area. That data can predict if the property could be damaged and what level of damage is likely to occur.” The TeamCraft team is currently fine-tuning its AI models to achieve greater than 95% accuracy in predicting property damage, which could transform how contractors plan, allocate crews and protect customer assets in the very near future. 

Proactive service, better outcomes 

The development of this technology reflects TeamCraft’s commitment to serving customers. “If we can be the first to identify damaged roofs, then we can also be the first to go to our customers and fix everything. Additionally, if we know about weather events ahead of time and can predict the damage, we can be proactive before the event even occurs,” Alex explained. 

The system will eventually allow users to subscribe to custom alerts by property type, weather event and geography. Contractors could set alerts for hailstorms, snow, extreme heat or even wildfires, tailoring notifications to the risks most relevant to their markets. 

By merging real-time weather intelligence with machine learning, the company hopes to redefine what it means to be proactive in storm response.
