Honoring his grandfather and working like a dog

By Dani Sheehan.

Red Dog’s Roofing is synonymous with honesty, hard work and trustworthiness. Hear what’s in a name and how Patrick Cochran has built his business in the roofing industry.

On our latest episode of Stories from the Roof, sponsored by Ruby®, Megan Ellsworth sat down with Patrick Cochran, owner of Red Dog’s Roofing and third generation roofing professional to talk about how he’s grown his business and why he is dedicated to serving his community.

With offices in Massachusetts, Florida and Connecticut, Patrick says, “We focus primarily on residential, but we also do some commercial roofing. Most of our business is asphalt shingles, but we install and repair all types of roofing systems from TPO to EPDM to slate and metal roofing. So, we take on all types of roofing and repairs.”

Growing up with a father and grandfather in the trade, Patrick learned about roofing from a young age and wanted to give back to his family when he started the business. He shared with Megan the story behind the name, saying, “I came up with Red Dog's Roofing because my grandfather's nickname was Red. My dad said he worked like a dog. So, I combined the two and it was a way for me to personify my grandfather.”

Hoping to change the way the roofing industry is perceived, Patrick is dedicated to building a business that works with integrity, service and craftsmanship as a part of the community. One of the biggest lessons he learned from his father was to do a good job. He elaborated, “I remember very specifically my father saying, if you're going to get into roofing, you got to do a good job or you ain't got no business taking people's hard-earned money. And I really follow that, and I make sure my team understands that too. At the end of the day, people are putting their trust and their money into our company.”

Read the transcript or Listen to the podcast to learn more great advice from Patrick and find out how he intends to grow his business and move closer to his goal.
