What is a modified bitumen membrane? 

A modified bitumen membrane is a membrane made from modified asphalt with a laminated sheet reinforcement that provides mechanical properties. Joining these materials enhances the membrane's performance and durability, making them versatile and widely used in roofing and waterproofing. They are typically used in flat or low-slope roofing systems, like commercial and industrial buildings, but they can also serve as effective waterproofing layers for terraces and balconies. With proper installation and maintenance, modified bitumen roofing systems can last between 20 to 30 years, but the British Board of Agrément (BBA) certified the SikaShield HB79 to have a “service life in excess of 35 years.”  

SikaShield® HB79: The newest in roofing innovation 

SikaShield® HB79 is a two in one hybrid modified bitumen membrane that combines APAO polymer and SBS asphaltic membrane technologies to produce a more resilient modified bitumen membrane solution. Together, these two layers allow for excellent heat resistance, cold weather flexibility, durability and a secure bond. Finally, SikaShield® HB79 is reinforced with both polyester and glass fiber mats for greater strength, length, tear resistance and stability, making it ideal for buildings in changing temperatures and with heavy foot traffic.

• Increased longevity: BBA certified to have a service life of at least 35 years
