Endless possibilities with Sika’s next-gen roofing solutions

Endless possibilities with Sika’s next-gen roofing solutions

New adhesive and polyurea technologies offer faster installations, odor-free application and expanded contractor flexibility.

At FRSA's 103rd Florida Roofing & Sheet Metal Expo in June 2025, Karen Edwards of RoofersCoffeeShop® sat down with Thomas Garguilo, technical sales representative from Sika, to discuss the latest roofing technologies and trends. Representing the roofing division, Thomas highlighted new product developments to meet growing contractor needs in efficient, versatile solutions.

For over 150 years, Sika has proven to be a leader in roofing performance, with its three core roofing systems Sika RoofPro (cold-fluid applied), American Hydrotech (hot-applied), and Sika Sarnafil (single-ply). However, the buzz at FRSA was all about what’s new. Contractors were eager for innovations, and Sika delivered.

One major highlight was the PMMA adhesive launched last year. Designed to bond single-ply membranes to Kynar-coated edge metals, it provides an alternative for cladded metal, giving contractors more flexibility. “If the owners are set on a certain type of reveal on the edge of the building and they can't change it, now we have an adhesive to help them make that transition and bond that membrane to those edge metals,” Thomas said.

He also introduced Sika’s DS 100, their double-sided adhesive application for wall flashing, and two polyurea products. The Sikalastic®-835 I is a hot spray polyurea that cures in just 12 seconds, making it ideal for quick installations of large areas. The Sikalastic®-702 is their cold fluid version that comes in a pail, eliminating the need for a spray rig for smaller projects.

A key benefit to these polyurea products is their low environmental impact: they have zero VOC emissions and no odor, making them safe for all buildings. “The possibilities are endless,” Thomas expressed. “With the different topcoat options we have, you can do anything from a split slab plaza deck all the way to an exposed roof that stays incredibly clean and is quick and easy to do.”

It’s clear that Sika is continuing to innovate to provide the best solutions for contractors. Thomas stated, “The more options that we can give contractors to conduct different scopes on projects, the better for Sika and the contractors.”
