Disabled Former Military Police Officer Given New Roof

John Christmann served for three years as a military police officer.  

The St. Johnsville, New York veteran shared with the Leader Herald that receiving the new roof was a huge relief for him, saying, “It took my anxiety and stress level from about a 150 to a 25. It’s such a relief.” 

John received his new roof thanks to the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Program and Correll Contracting Corp., an Owens Corning Platinum Roofing Contractor.  

“Purple heart homes works with veterans to do different projects for them all the time. So Purple Heart Homes found Mr. Christmann who was in need of a new roof, and then working with Owens Corning — they’re a shingle manufacturer — they asked us if we wanted to partner up and we said ‘absolutely,’ it’s a great cause and I think It’s really important to support our veterans,” Marrissa Rubscha-Horton, co-owner of Correll Contracting Corp. shared with the Leader Herald. “Our company does a lot of things for local organizations all throughout the year but this is a really special project and I just think that now more than ever is a really important time to give back.” 

Thanks to Purple Heart Homes, John was also able to have his furnace replaced through their Home Depot partnership. He is now heating his home with propane instead of fuel oil which he said has made a difference.  

“In this world of all the evil crap going on, it’s nice to know there’s still people that care and are willing to help out veterans,” John shared with the Leader Herald.
