Cordless welding tool targets roofing repairs

Cordless welding tool targets roofing repairs

Learn how a cordless hot-air hand welder is designed to help contractors complete membrane repairs more efficiently on difficult-to-access roofs.

Roof repairs often require contractors to move tools, materials and power sources to locations that are not always easy to reach. For service and repair work on commercial roofing systems, that logistical challenge can slow progress and complicate smaller welding tasks. At the International Roofing Expo (IRE) 2026 in Las Vegas, Leister introduced a cordless welding tool designed to make those repairs more practical in the field. During a conversation with Lauren White, Dave Nordentoft, product manager for the roofing category at Leister, explained how the company developed the tool to address long-standing challenges contractors face during service work.

“We’re very, very excited about another new product, the Next Heat 300 ALP cordless battery powered hand welder,” Dave said. The demand for a cordless welding solution has been building for years as contractors look for ways to perform membrane repairs without relying on rooftop power sources. “The marketplace has been asking for a tool like this for quite a while,” he said.

“There’s a lot of situations where there’s challenges with difficult roof access,” Dave explained. “It’s hard to get tools up to the roof. It’s hard to get power supply up to the roof.” Battery-powered operation allows contractors to handle shorter welding tasks without setting up corded equipment. Dave noted that users can expect approximately “14 to maybe 15 minutes of run time using it at max temperature.” The tool also includes a battery management system designed to maintain consistent heat output throughout operation, so welding temperatures remain stable.

“That’s a peace of mind to it so that folks who have to stand behind those repairs walk away and say that it was done properly,” Dave said. The welding kit includes the tool, a battery, charger and nozzle, allowing contractors to begin using it immediately after opening the case. As units continue entering distribution channels across the United States, availability is expected to increase throughout the early months of the year as contractors begin adopting the cordless solution for roofing repairs.
