Learn the tools, tactics and real behaviors that separate an average close rate from a great one.

Most contractors spend hours training their teams on the opening of the sales pitch: building rapport with the homeowner and completing the inspection. But according to Leap National Sales Manager Jon Marigliano and Ingage Director of Marketing Pam Torrey, it’s what happens after the handshake that determines whether a conversation turns into a signature. In a new on-demand webinar, Leap and Ingage join forces to walk contractors through the most overlooked part of the sales process: the second half of the pitch.

Why the second half of the pitch is the real closer

By the time the homeowner has seen your inspection, measurements, and product options, their attention span is shrinking. This is the moment when structure matters most. The webinar discusses why too many reps lose the customer right before the finish line and which tools or tactics are necessary to carry the conversation home.

Learn how to:

Craft a smooth, personalized product transition

Ensure the homeowner’s focus and avoid information overload

Structure a presentation for maximum impact

Follow the four essential steps every rep should take before finishing a sale

Personalization: The new standard for sales

Homeowners increasingly want contractors who understand their concerns, their home and their budget instead of contractors who read off a cookie-cutter pitch. They’re more likely to move forward when you actively listen and offer options that best align with their specific goals.

Both Leap and Ingage reinforce the same message: personalization only works if your tech stack supports it. You need resources that help you adapt in real time and keep the pitch moving without getting lost. Tools like Leap’s end-to-end sales platform and Ingage’s interactive presentations work together to create a modern, fluid sales workflow that allows you to confidently close every sale.

Industry experts explain how connected sales and CRM systems reduce errors and increase close rates.

Contractors looking to tighten margins and streamline their sales process heard a clear message during a recent webinar hosted by Leap and improveit 360: profitable growth starts with smarter quoting and cleaner data. The session, led by Jon Marigliano of Leap and Evan Klaus of improveit 360, walked contractors through the ways integrated systems can eliminate double entry, reduce errors, speed up follow-ups and boost close rates.

Jon started the conversation by acknowledging the emphasis contractors have on maintaining growth. “Everyone's thinking about growth—how to hit higher revenue goals, expand their teams, enter new markets. But growth only matters if it's profitable growth,” he stated. “The right tools can help you protect margins, eliminate errors, and set your teams up to scale effectively.”

Evan said the biggest profitability risks often begin at the top of the funnel, especially for contractors handling high lead volumes. “As volume grows, things can get messy pretty fast,” he said. “Without a CRM or proper tools and processes in place to manage that flow, you can start to lose control over time. These manual handoffs between marketing, sales and operations can lead to a lot of inconsistent data, slower follow-up time, and a whole lot of frustration for your team.”

Both speakers highlighted the value of unifying improveit 360’s CRM capabilities with Leap SalesPro’s in-home selling tools. Jon explained how the integration removes redundant data entry and prevents mismatched documents. “Contracts, pricing information, and customer data are going to automatically flow between the systems, which means no double entry and no errors,” he said.

Evan added that the combined system gives leaders real-time visibility. “Your forecasting is finally going to make a lot more sense,” he stated. “You're no longer guessing or piecing together spreadsheets to understand where the business stands.”

They ended the conversation by stressing that automation and connected workflows let teams spend less time managing data and more time selling. “When you're using both improveit 360 and SalesPro together, you can expect flawless capture, timely outreach and accurate stake-free quoting that's going to lead to higher close rates,” Jon expressed. “It’s faster, it’s cleaner and it’s going to be more profitable at the end of the day.”

To stay competitive, scale your business and provide the best service possible, contractors should look to invest in a strategic, integrated CRM ecosystem.

Whether they're using Excel spreadsheets, managing finances through QuickBooks or ordering materials through online portals, most roofing contractors today use technology as a part of their daily operations. However, simply using one or two separate tech platforms isn’t an efficient way for a business to stay competitive and grow in today’s market. At the Western Roofing Expo 2025 put on by Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA), Jon Marigliano, National Sales Manager at Leap, spoke with Megan R. Ellsworth about how Leap’s solutions are helping contractors move from manual chaos to digital cohesion.

“The problem is, contractors don't really have a place to organize all of these things,” Jon shared. “You're doing 20 different things in 20 different places. How do you bring that all together and make it a streamlined, cohesive experience?”

Leap’s two main offerings—SalesPro, a point-of-sale enablement tool, and Leap CRM, a platform acquired through the company’s purchase of JobProgress—bring project data, estimates and integrations into one, cohesive system. “It takes all these different things and puts it onto one nice, neat package,” Jon said. “This helps save a tremendous amount of time and allows roofers to focus on what they do best, which is roofing.”

One exciting addition to Leap’s services is their new integration with ABC Supply, which joins existing integrations with SRS and QXO. “When roofers build their estimate within Leap CRM, it's actually going to bring in their live, up-to-date pricing from ABC,” Jon explained. “Instead of logging into ABC and placing the order separately, you can just place the order right into ABC from Leap.”

This connected workflow eliminates the headache of transferring data back and forth, reduces human error and ensures contractors are working with the most accurate, current pricing. For roofing contractors ready to let go of juggling multiple apps, spreadsheets and software logins, Leap’s connected platform is offering a smarter, simpler way forward!

With a focus on collaboration and innovation, Leap continues to grow its platform and impact with technology innovations.

At the North East Roofing Contractors Association (NERCA) show in March 2025, Farith Odar, sales manager at Leap, spoke with Karen Edwards at The Coffee Shops™ Sound Stage to discuss the brand’s dedication to customer experience. Karen and Farith reflected on Leap’s acquisition of JobProgress and how it brought Leap into a rich community and loyal customer base.

“JobProgress is a very strong brand,” Farith stated. “We’re super proud of that because the primary reason why we acquired JobProgress was because of their branding, their roots and the robust product in the community that they were serving. It’s a very loyal base.”

Loyalty is something that Leap prioritizes when working with partners and customers alike. In partnering with industry leaders like QXO, SRS, ABC Supply, Siro, and even competitors like AccuLynx, Farith explains that everything is done with the customer’s experience in mind. “We shake all hands; it’s all very customer centric,” he said. “If we can work together on connecting the dots, we're game.”

To help connect the dots further in the future of technological advancements, Leap is bounding right into the AI game with a new customer support system centered on AI.

“We’re using a lot of AI on the backend to get our customer support and knowledge base tuned in so that customers can eventually have all the answers they need,” Farith shared. “We’re making it so that the customer doesn't have to rely on multiple brands. If we can provide solutions under one roof, it makes more sense and it’s also a better customer experience.”

Utilizing a CRM can help contractors break free from workflow chaos and streamline success.

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Megan Ellsworth spoke with Danielle Basch from Leap to discuss the hidden costs of disorganization in running a roofing business and how utilizing a CRM can help turn things around.

Danielle said that, while inefficiencies might not be obvious at first, they add up quickly. “You might not see it in the day-to-day, but it adds up,” she explained. “The missed follow-ups, the mistakes that lead to redos, crews waiting around for the job details and the team burnout. Your office staff is constantly chasing information, and that's when crews and homeowners get annoyed.”

Disorganization doesn’t only affect your team and your customers; it takes a heavy toll on the business owner, too.

“For the contractor, you're stuck reacting instead of growing,” Danielle shared. “When you implement software or even just a basic CRM, you start to realize you can scale a business more easily, because those things are centralized and managed from one place.”

When contractors finally break free from their past painful processes, Danielle said the difference can be dramatic. “They'll feel it across the board slowly,” she said. “They'll start selling more and faster. The office staff won't be as burnt out, buried in paperwork. The crews will show up with the right information and the right materials. Then homeowners become impressed, your reviews go up and you, as the owner, can finally breathe. You can think about growth, not just getting through the day-to-day.”

That’s where Leap steps in. “Leap helps you take control of your processes so you can run your roofing business like a pro,” Danielle stated. “Our mission at Leap is to help you look more professional in the home and land those deals so you can grow your company.”

From lead intake to project completion, Leap helps you organize all of your systems and operations in one customizable place. You can create estimates, pull pricing data from manufacturers and take payment directly through the CRM. By embracing these streamlined systems, contractors can trade reactionary chaos into intentional growth and finally run their businesses with the efficiency and professionalism that customers expect.

Ensure your business is on the right track by checking for these common errors.

No contractor is perfect, no matter how many years of experience they may have under their belt. That’s why it’s important for seasoned contractors to stay aware of common pitfalls and ensureing they cover all the bases.

At Leap, we provide the right solutions to help contractors streamline operations and reduce costly errors. We consolidated 10 of the most common mistakes contractors make and how to avoid them, paving the way for a long-lasting business with satisfied customers.

Recognizing common mistakes contractors make

Contractors transform houses into the safe living spaces that homeowners envision. Yet even the most experienced contractors are not immune to the occasional misstep.

Home improvement projects can be complex. Moreover, contractors shoulder the weight of homeowners’ expectations, budgets, timelines and quality standards.

Here’s why it’s vital for contractors to be well-versed in the most common mistakes they should avoid:

Professionalism: Recognizing common pitfalls elevates a contractor’s professionalism. Customers are more likely to trust professionals who are aware of potential issues and can provide solutions to avoid them.

Customer relationships: Understanding and avoiding common mistakes can help contractors maintain trust, open lines of communication and foster strong customer relationships. Homeowners appreciate contractors who take their concerns seriously and work diligently to deliver on their promises.

Project success: Avoiding common mistakes ultimately leads to project success. This includes accurately estimating project costs, managing schedules effectively or ensuring the highest quality of work. Addressing these pitfalls can mean the difference between a satisfied customer and a dissatisfied one.

Legal protection: Legal obligations are crucial in the construction and home improvement industry. Neglecting legal requirements, such as licensing, permits and insurance, can lead to costly legal issues.

Financial stability: Proper financial management is essential for the long-term success of a contracting business. Understand the financial mistakes that contractors often make, such as underestimating material costs or overcommitting to multiple projects.

Continuous improvement: Contractors who take the time to analyze and learn from common mistakes are more likely to achieve continuous improvement. This involves honing skills, adopting better practices and staying current with industry trends. Contractors who commit to improving are better positioned to thrive in a competitive market.

By understanding these errors and implementing effective solutions, contractors can provide a better service, maintain trust and establish themselves as leaders within their service area. So, let’s dive into the 10 most common mistakes contractors make in the industry right now.

1 - Underselling a job

Underselling a job is a prevalent error among contractors. It often occurs when contractors underestimate the time, resources and expenses required for a project.

In fact, this mistake can lead to numerous complications down the line. For example, this includes financial losses, strained customer relationships and incomplete or subpar work.

To avoid this pitfall, contractors should conduct thorough assessments of each project, consider every detail and factor in potential obstacles. A detailed cost estimate, accurate timeline and a comprehensive understanding of the project’s scope are essential.

Sales software has become the new standard that is helping contractors with price control, product offerings and materials. For instance, Leap’s SalesPro software ensures that your sales reps aren’t underselling a job or offering products that are no longer available.

2 - Scheduling issues

Scheduling issues can be a major source of frustration for both contractors and homeowners. Delays can occur due to various reasons, including poor planning, unforeseen problems or inadequate communication.

Contractors should establish realistic timelines that consider potential setbacks. Open and honest communication with customers about delays and unforeseen issues is essential to managing expectations and maintaining trust. Regular updates on project progress can also help in this regard.

Better yet, CRM software can help your team optimize and track their schedules to ensure there’s no overlap. It’s also the best solution to streamlining customer communications! The Leap platform is an end-to-end management solution with scheduling features, workflow automation and more.

3 - Poor communication with customers

Effective communication is key to a successful home improvement project. Yet, many contractors falter in this aspect. Miscommunication, lack of responsiveness or unclear expectations can lead to misunderstandings and dissatisfaction. This is one of the most common mistakes contractors make that affect reputation and referral business.

In general, contractors should prioritize clear and consistent communication with their customers. Regularly updating homeowners on project status, addressing concerns promptly and ensuring all expectations are well-documented can enhance the overall experience. Furthermore, listening to the customer’s needs and preferences is equally important.

4 - Inadequate documentation

Documentation is often an overlooked aspect of contracting work. However, it’s crucial for a smooth and legally sound project. Failure to maintain proper records can lead to disputes, financial issues and even legal complications.

This is another area where the best solution is software. Contractors should maintain comprehensive documentation of all project-related activities in one centralized platform. This includes estimates, contracts, change orders, invoices and any other relevant documents.

A well-documented project provides protection for both the contractor and the homeowner. In addition, it ensures transparency throughout the project.

5 - Ignoring legal requirements

Neglecting legal requirements is a grave mistake that contractors should avoid at all costs. Licensing, permits and insurance are essential elements of a contractor’s legal obligations. Overlooking them can lead to serious consequences.

Contractors must ensure they are properly licensed and have the necessary permits for each project. Moreover, carrying adequate insurance coverage is essential for protecting both the contractor and the customer in case of accidents or unexpected issues.

6 - Underestimating material costs

Material costs often make up a significant portion of a project’s budget. Therefore, underestimating these costs can result in financial strain for contractors and unexpected expenses for homeowners. It’s one of the common mistakes contractors make which can affect their bottom line.

Contractors should conduct thorough research on material prices and trends, including any fluctuations in the market. Building a buffer for potential cost increases is a prudent strategy to ensure that material expenses remain within budget.

7 - Neglecting quality control

Some contractors may focus too much on completing projects quickly, neglecting the quality of their work. Overall, this can lead to poor craftsmanship and unsatisfied customers.

That’s why it’s important to prioritize quality over speed. Implementing rigorous quality control measures, regular inspections and using high-quality materials can ensure the final result meets or exceeds expectations.

8 - Overcommitting to multiple projects

Overcommitting is a common error among contractors who take on too many projects simultaneously. Juggling multiple projects can lead to exhaustion, missed deadlines and compromised quality. It also plays directly into scheduling issues as mentioned above.

Contractors should realistically assess their capacity and only take on projects they can manage effectively. Prioritizing quality over quantity is often the key to a successful contracting business.

9 - Inadequate financial management

Financial mismanagement is one of the most common mistakes contractors make. In fact, poor financial practices can lead to cash flow problems that affect a contractor’s ability to complete projects successfully.

Contractors should invest in proper management systems to better track and analyze their financial data. Keeping detailed records of income, expenses, taxes and other expenses are critical steps to ensuring financial stability.

10 - Neglecting customer feedback

Contractors who ignore feedback are missing out on a valuable source of information for improvement. Furthermore, failing to address customer concerns and suggestions can harm a contractor’s reputation and future business.

It’s important to actively seek feedback from customers at various stages of the project. Implementing feedback and making improvements enhances the customer’s experience and demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement.

If you’re unsure how your current software handles your information, now is the time to take control of your business data.

From customer details and job histories to pricing, forecasting and employee records, every piece of information you collect plays a role in your success. In a recent episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Karen Edwards sat down with Mike Ippoliti from Leap to discuss what contractors need to know about protecting their business data and what to look for in a secure CRM.

Your data is your lifeblood

Data touches every aspect of your daily operations. As Mike explains, “Your business data is the lifeblood – what helps you identify what to take advantage of when it comes to marketing, protecting homeowners and planning for growth and scalability.” When managed properly, data helps you track performance, spot opportunities and build trust with your customers. But if left unprotected, that same data can become a liability.

It’s easy to overlook the need to protect your own data, but as a business owner, you’re responsible for safeguarding your customers’ personal information too. “We have to be very careful about where we input our data,” Mike cautions. From addresses and payment details to warranties and photos, homeowners trust you to keep that data secure. It’s critical to use a CRM and tech stack that are built with privacy and security measures in place. Encryption, data permissions and strong user authentication can all help ensure your business and customer information stay safe.

Know the red flags and ask questions

Not all software platforms treat your data the same way. Some tools may sell or share your information through third-party partnerships, leaving you vulnerable without realizing it. “It’s very important to review your end user license agreement,” Mike advises. “I always recommend taking it, throwing it in ChatGPT and asking, ‘How safe am I from a data perspective?’ It’s going to analyze that information and it’s the easiest way to find out.”

At the end of the day, you should always maintain ownership of your business data. Mike explains that Leap is built on that principle: “We’re very firm believers in letting you access your data, giving you the tools to export it and use it as you need.”

Explore how this fully integrated CRM tool can save you time so you can focus on the ones you love.

“I'm missing my kid's baseball games due to work. My wife is starting to get irritated with me. I need to take a vacation. I either need a CRM, or I need to hire an office person."

Sound familiar?

This was a real-life contractor anecdote shared by Katy Rebernak of Beacon Building Products in this episode of Roofing Road Trips®. Katy was joined by Alexandra Bohanon of Leap to discuss their companies’ partnership to save contractors time and money by providing a streamlined, integrated CRM solution.

On the one hand, if you are constantly busy, this is great news. This likely means you provide quality service that brings in steady work. However, you may not be optimizing your time well enough to actually grow and scale your business. Hiring additional people like office managers could turn out to be more costly and less effective, whereas a CRM can save you time and overhead costs.

“CRMs, like Leap, are giving contractors a lot more tools and the capability of managing their business so that they can get the five-star reviews, they can go sell the next house, they can get the next job. That's really what Beacon wants,” Katy stated. “We know that when contractors are successful, we are successful. We could not exist without helping them and supporting them to grow and be more efficient. That's really our goal with this partnership.”

With this integration, contractors have access to multiple data reporting tools to make smarter business decisions with greater confidence, without the extra legwork. In addition, both Leap and Beacon are committed to providing services that are private and secure.

“We're proud of the secure systems we built at Leap, I know that Katy and her team are proud of the secure systems that they built at Beacon,” Alexandra shared. “I'm just happy to bring all of these components together so that people can place orders with confidence.”

Katy further sang Leap’s praises: “Beacon does not partner with every CRM out there because we're very sensitive to making sure that whoever we partner with is really providing a comprehensive solution to meet our customers’ needs. Leap has built something that's top of the line, and it just makes sense.”

            style=' '  loading='lazy' />

With the new ABC Supply connection, contractors can shave hours off every project by browsing the distributor's full catalog and submitting verified orders inside Leap CRM.

Leap, the complete platform for roofers and remodelers, today announced a new direct integration between Leap CRM and ABC Supply Co. Inc., the largest wholesale distributor of roofing and select exterior building materials in North America. The connection gives contractors a single workspace to browse ABC Supply's branch catalog, pull accurate pricing and availability into estimates, and place tracked orders without ever leaving Leap CRM.

Leap CRM integrates ABC Supply for real-time materials ordering

With the new ABC Supply connection, contractors can shave hours off every project by browsing the distributor's full catalog and submitting verified orders inside Leap CRM. Branch-level product offerings and real-time pricing flow directly into estimates, keeping proposals accurate and trustworthy. Once a customer signs, that estimate converts into a verified ABC Supply order, eliminating manual re-entry and costly errors, while order-status updates feed back into Leap CRM to keep sales, production and back-office teams aligned.

"Contractors shouldn't have to bounce between systems just to keep a job moving," said Patrick Fingles, CEO of Leap. "By bringing ABC Supply's real-time pricing and ordering inside Leap CRM, we're eliminating wasted clicks, phone calls and guesswork. Contractors can scope, price, order and track materials in one place — so projects move faster and with far fewer mistakes."

The integration taps directly into ABC Supply's branch-level data, giving contractors immediate insight into local product offerings and delivery schedules. That transparency helps crews plan jobs with confidence, avoid last-minute substitutions and keep projects on time and on budget, benefits that are especially critical during peak building seasons.

"ABC Supply is committed to helping contractors grow with technology that streamlines the way they run their business," said Kris Kieffer, director of customer enablement of ABC Supply. "Partnering with Leap extends that commitment by delivering our complete product catalog, real-time branch data and friction-free ordering directly into the CRM many of our customers already rely on. Together, we're giving them a faster, more accurate way to run their business every day."

Explore how reviews, relevance and receipts can make a real difference in your roofing business.

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Karen Edwards spoke with Patrick Fingles, CEO of Leap, about the role technology plays in building trust with customers today. Leap is an industry leader in providing CRM solutions that make it easier for roofers and remodelers to win and manage more jobs. With Leap, clients can expect to stay leaps and bounds ahead of competitors while building 5-star experiences for their own customers.

Reviews

One part of procuring more jobs is by fully utilizing digital reviews. Today, most consumers rely on online reviews and product details before making a purchase, and contractors should learn to leverage digital tools to build this trust and secure more jobs. While most companies are dipping their toes into gathering reviews, Patrick emphasizes that, in order to really stand out, you have to go further.

“Capture those reviews, tie them to a particular salesperson and then tie those reviews to a pre-sale email that goes out,” Patrick explained. “So, I can see that Mike, the contractor that's giving me my estimate, has four-and-a-half stars. And these are the reviews of the customers that are most relevant to me. Here are the jobs that Mike's done.”

Relevance

On top of gathering and fully utilizing reviews, Patrick also illustrated the importance of knowing who your customers are, deciphering what they are looking for and then providing them with the information that is relevant to them.

“If you're a nationwide company and you have 3000 reviews, that might be good, but how relevant is that to me?” Patrick stated. “I want to see the reviews that came from my area.”

Receipts

The third “R” in building a trusting relationship is giving full, transparent receipts. For this, Patrick provided a helpful metaphor.

“You ever have a contractor come out to your house, they look around and say, ‘How about $10,000?’” he started. “Imagine if you push your grocery cart up to the register and the cashier said, ‘How about 250 bucks?’ You don't want that. You want them to scan every item.”

In a time when consumers are willing to pay more for brands that prioritize transparency, providing customers line-by-line pricing so they know exactly what they're paying for can be a real differentiator.
