Contractors and manufacturers are uniting to provide roofing, labor and resources for families in need.

In an industry driven by momentum, precision and meaningful work, roofing professionals are finding a deeper purpose by supporting families in need. Across the country, contractors, manufacturers and distributors are coming together to support Ronald McDonald House Charities through a coordinated effort that combines financial contributions with essential roofing services. That collaboration reflects a strong and growing culture of giving within the industry, one rooted in hands-on, skills-based support. Rather than relying solely on donations, roofing professionals are contributing materials, labor and ongoing maintenance to help ensure these facilities remain safe, reliable and welcoming for families. During an episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Jason Stanley of IB Roof Systems™ shared how that experience brings a valuable perspective. As Jason noted, “It really centers you on what's important, which is family and giving back.”

“It’s just roofing,” Jason said. “If you ever want to feel like it’s just roofing, go visit your local Ronald McDonald House charity.”

The scale of involvement continues to grow. Roofing contractors across the United States are conducting twice-annual inspections, maintaining drainage systems and completing repairs to ensure each facility remains safe and functional. Manufacturers are contributing insulation, fasteners and membrane systems, while distributors often handle transportation logistics, sometimes at no cost. The result is a coordinated, industry-wide effort that reduces operational expenses for the charity while maintaining high-quality building performance.

This collaboration has also sparked grassroots initiatives designed to expand participation. Events like charity golf tournaments are drawing professionals from across the country, combining networking opportunities with fundraising efforts that directly support new construction and facility upgrades. As Jason Stanley noted, “It’s a star-studded cast of really great people that come together to do something really noble.”

At its core, the movement reflects a shared recognition of responsibility. “There’s no greater cause than these kids,” Jason said, emphasizing the motivation behind continued involvement.

As more companies step forward, the roofing industry is demonstrating that its impact extends well beyond the jobsite, providing not only shelter, but stability for families during some of their most difficult moments.

Listen to the podcast to learn more about how roofing professionals are giving back through hands-on support, industry collaboration and long-term commitment to Ronald McDonald House Charities!

International collaboration brings new ideas home.

The Coffee Shops™ were proud to participate in the 2026 National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) Study Tour to Cologne, Germany and Brussels, Belgium. The tour began in Cologne where the global roofing community gathered for Dach + Holz International, one of the world’s premier roofing trade shows. Industry leaders, manufacturers and contractors from around the world came together to share ideas, showcase new technology and discuss best practices shaping the future of roofing.

Participants on the NRCA 2026 Study Tour represented a diverse cross section of the roofing industry including contractors, consultants and manufacturers. Attendees included John Chan and Gary Howes of The Durable Slate Company; Matt Dupuis of SRI Consultants; Ruben Gonzalez of AIS Construction Inc.; Ron Harriman, retired from Benchmark, Inc.; Alex Hernandez of Clark Roofing Company; Dean Jagusch of Wagner Roofing Company; Sherri Miles of J.D. Miles & Sons, Inc.; Lorna Rojas of National Women in Roofing and Tremco CPG; Jason Stanley and Jamie Treglio of IB Roof Systems; Joe Zale of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc.; Abad Zarate of AzaPro Roofing and Heidi J. Ellsworth of The Coffee Shops. Together the group represented a broad range of expertise and perspectives from across the roofing industry.

The purpose of the NRCA 2026 Study Tour was to provide participants with valuable insights into international roofing practices while exploring best practices, gaining a deeper understanding of global trends and establishing meaningful connections with professionals from around the world. By bringing contractors, consultants and industry leaders together in an international setting, the tour created opportunities to exchange knowledge and experience firsthand how roofing technologies and practices differ across markets.

During the event, NRCA CEO McKay Daniels spoke about the importance of international engagement for roofing professionals. One of NRCA’s priorities, he explained, is helping contractors make tomorrow better than today by creating opportunities to see how roofing is practiced in different regions of the world.

“Part of our role is bringing contractors and industry professionals to international events like this so they can see how others are approaching roofing,” McKay said. “Different climates, different building methods and different technologies all influence how roofing is done. There’s no monopoly on good ideas.”

For many attendees on the NRCA 2026 Study Tour, the experience of walking the Dach + Holz show floor was eye opening. From waterproofing technologies to solar integration and green roofing systems, international manufacturers showcased innovations that offered a glimpse of where the industry may be heading. Seeing these developments firsthand allows U.S. contractors to better understand how global markets are evolving and how those ideas may influence roofing practices at home.

The agenda for the NRCA 2026 Study Tour included the Dach + Holz Trade Show along with site visits, facility tours and group dinners designed to encourage discussion and collaboration among participants. The tour also included a visit to the Derbigum manufacturing facility in Belgium. Derbigum, a Kingspan company, provided attendees with a behind-the-scenes look at manufacturing processes and product development. A highlight of the visit was learning about the company’s commitment to sustainability through its “No Roof to Waste” initiative, a dedicated program that collects and recycles old roof membranes and installation waste, reducing the need for new raw materials.

Together, these experiences provided a unique opportunity to broaden perspectives and bring back valuable knowledge that can help strengthen roofing businesses and organizations across the United States. Events like Dach + Holz have long served as a hub for global roofing innovation, bringing together manufacturers, contractors and craftspeople from around the world. For U.S. contractors attending with NRCA, the goal was not only to observe but to return home with new ideas and perspectives that can help advance the industry.

            class=''
            style=' '  loading='lazy' />

This addition completes the single ply portfolio with proven performance and contractor-focused design.

IB Roof Systems, a recognized leader in the commercial roofing industry, announces the addition of Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) membranes to its established product portfolio. Long known for leading with high-quality PVC and liquid-applied roofing systems, the introduction of TPO rounds out IB’s single ply offerings and strengthens its position as a comprehensive commercial roofing solutions provider.

The addition of IB TPO enhances the company’s system-driven approach, providing contractors, consultants and building owners with another high-performance membrane option to combine with insulation, coverboard and vapor barriers already included in the product portfolio. Backed by IB’s technical expertise, decades of commercial roofing experience and excellence in customer service, the TPO membranes are manufactured to meet ASTM D6878 standards and are engineered for strength, flexibility and durability. Designed for large-footprint roofing applications, IB TPO delivers consistent weldability, reliable seam integrity and reflective performance suited for a wide range of climates and building types.

“IB has always focused on delivering complete roofing systems built for long-term performance,” said Jason Stanley, CEO of IB Roof Systems. “With TPO, we now offer a full complement of single-ply solutions and one point of contact for the entire roofing system. Contractors and building owners can expect the same commitment to quality, support and warranty strength that has defined IB for decades.”

IB TPO membranes are engineered for predictable installation and dependable field performance. The membrane formulation supports a reliable weld window, designed to maximize productivity during installation and minimize potential leak points. Reinforced construction and a stable UV-resistant formulation contribute to long-term weatherability and durability across varied environmental conditions.

IB TPO is available in multiple configurations to meet project requirements, including smooth-back membranes in 60 mil and 80 mil thicknesses and fleece-back membranes in 115 mil and 135 mil options. Color selections include White, Tan and Gray. CRRC-rated options help reduce rooftop heat gain, support energy efficiency objectives and compliance with applicable building codes.

The system integrates with a full range of compatible IB system components engineered for high-performance, including insulation, vapor barriers and many TPO accessories. As with all IB Roof Systems, TPO is supported by comprehensive warranty options, responsive technical assistance and a customer-first approach that reflects IB’s longstanding commitment to partnership in the field.

With the addition of TPO, IB Roof Systems offers a complete commercial roofing portfolio that includes PVC, TPO and liquid-applied roofing systems along with insulation and coordinated system accessories. This expansion reinforces IB’s commitment to delivering reliable, high-performance roofing solutions designed to protect commercial assets for decades.

Discover how one manufacturer is broadening its membrane and insulation offerings to help contractors grow with the market.

At The Coffee Shop™ Sound Stage sponsored by SRS Distribution, during the International Roofing Expo (IRE), leadership from IB Roof Systems™ outlined how new product lines and vertical integration are positioning the company for its next phase of growth. Karen Edwards welcomed CEO Jason Stanley and newly appointed COO Nathan Wilson to discuss expansion, market realities and how the business is evolving to better serve contractors.

Nathan joined IB Roof Systems in July after a 10-year tenure with Kingspan Group, where he led operations following an acquisition. As chief operating officer, he is focused on integrating logistics and supporting the company’s expanded manufacturing capabilities.

Jason, who has led the family business for the past 15 years, described 2025 as a year of growth and learning. That learning accelerated after IB’s acquisition by Kingspan Group 18 months ago. Jason explained that shortly after the acquisition, he received lots of inquiries as to whether they were now going to expand into TPO because of the press release mentioning Kingspan’s investments into TPO manufacturing. His answer at the time was, “No – we sell PVC, that’s what we do.” Now, 18 months later, Jason explained that IB Roof Systems has recognized the market demand for TPO. “The market has embraced TPO. It is, according to SPRI, three times the PVC market,” he said. “So, IB Roof Systems is now selling IB TPO.”

Nathan noted that contractors who value IB’s PVC products have long asked for a broader offering. “Bringing in these new products is really a kind of a head nod to them that’s saying, ‘Hey guys, we want to keep joining up with you guys and keep working,’” he said.

The discussion also emphasized the role of polyisocyanurate insulation. “If you want to talk about what is the most expensive biggest cost driver in that roof assembly, it’s always been the polyiso,” Jason said. “It’s three or four times the cost of the roof membrane.”

With new polyiso assets coming online in Stillwater, Oklahoma and Cumberland, Maryland, the company is expanding supply capacity while leveraging vertical integration.

“Our ability now to really fulfill this kind of expansion into the marketplace is only going to be made easier by just really being vertically integrated and being able to offer that to the market,” Nathan said.

Acknowledging that the shift required both strategic humility and a willingness to evolve, Jason reflected on how new insight has shaped the company’s direction. “In light of new information, I reserve the right to change my mind,” Jason added. “It’s not that I was wrong before, it’s just that I have a lot more information today. We’re making better decisions with the information in front of us. These are more ways to sell more products to the same customers.”

IB Roof Systems adds TPO to better align product selection with building type and market demand.

As commercial roofing demands continue to diversify, manufacturers are reassessing how well their product portfolios reflect the realities contractors face in the field. In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Heidi J. Ellsworth spoke with Jason Stanley, CEO of IB Roof Systems™, about the company’s decision to expand beyond its long-standing focus on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membranes and introduce thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) to its lineup.

For decades, IB Roof Systems has been closely associated with PVC. Jason acknowledged that history directly. “I think I've been guilty for much of my life of being a one trick pony, right?” he joked. “I fell in love with PVC as my father did in the late seventies and have promoted it most of my adult life as a solution for every roof.”

However, as the commercial market and products have evolved, so have project requirements. While PVC remains a strong choice for mission-critical facilities such as hospitals, airports and data centers, much of today’s volume comes from warehouses and distribution centers where performance expectations and budget considerations differ. Market data shows TPO systems significantly outpace PVC in overall usage, making it the dominant membrane in many commercial applications.

That reality prompted a strategic reassessment.

“I think it is fair to recognize that the TPO was unproven 20 years ago, but it has since evolved into a trusted product. In light of new information, I'm willing to make different decisions that take us in a vastly different direction,” Jason said. As a result, IB Roof Systems is now offering TPO alongside its established PVC membranes and coating systems. The expansion is designed to give contractors flexibility when evaluating projects with varying life-cycle expectations, exposure risks and financial constraints.

Importantly, Jason expressed that membrane choice is only one part of a successful roof system. Insulation, adhesives, cover boards and vapor barriers often represent a substantial portion of overall cost and long-term performance. “These roof systems have become so robust and so expensive that the roof covering is critical to the performance you're looking for and some characteristics you need, but it's not the cost driver,” he said. "A large reason for launching TPO is that it is the most commonly specified product for new construction, which comes with Poly-ISO, another form of insulation. With IB having a vertical in the insulation market, we can now more successfully compete for these projects."

By broadening its product portfolio, IB Roof Systems is positioning itself to participate in more project types while reinforcing a system-based approach. For contractors, the shift represents a practical message that selecting the right roof begins with understanding the building’s purpose and matching it with a solution that reflects both market demand and performance goals.

A new calculator is giving roofing contractors a practical way to measure sustainability using verified carbon data.

Roofing contractors now have access to a tool designed to support informed conversations about carbon impact. IB Roof Systems’ Carbon Calculator helps users estimate how long it takes for one of the company’s reflective membranes to balance its calculated carbon emissions. For many projects and depending on the inputs used, this can occur within the product’s 30-year lifespan.

As green building standards like LEED continue to influence commercial construction, contractors who understand embodied carbon, durability and end-of-life performance can offer clients clearer guidance. The Carbon Calculator is intended as a transparent way to review the environmental profile of a project within defined assessment boundaries.

Why carbon neutrality matters

Carbon neutrality refers to balancing the carbon released during a product’s life with an equivalent amount reduced or avoided. IB Roof Systems, based on third-party validation and lifecycle analysis, reports that its reflective PVC membranes can reach this balance under the conditions modeled in the assessment.

IB Roof Systems notes that carbon outcomes vary by material type, installation method and service life, which can affect whether a system achieves a carbon-neutral balance within a comparable timeframe.

Durability, reflectivity and recyclability are now central considerations for roofing projects aiming to meet today’s sustainability expectations.

What shapes IB’s carbon calculations

IB’s reflective membranes are engineered to reflect up to 90 percent of solar heat, which can contribute to lower cooling demand. The materials are formulated for long service life, based on reported field performance. At end of life, the PVC membrane is processed for reuse rather than sent to landfill.

Jeff Walter of Northwest Polymers reports that 99.5 percent of the aged PVC membrane material processed from IB systems remains usable. The Carbon Calculator combines data on material sourcing, installation emissions, estimated operational energy performance and recycling outcomes to calculate when a roof may offset its modeled carbon footprint.

For many projects, the balance point occurs before replacement is expected, meaning the remaining years of service reflect the modeled carbon benefit.

Why it matters to clients

Contractors can use the calculator to help building owners understand long-term environmental and operational considerations. A roofing system that contributes to LEED points, supports lower energy demand and includes third-party-verified carbon data provides clear, evidence-based value.

For organizations focused on ESG goals or corporate sustainability reporting, access to transparent lifecycle information can support more informed decision making.
